Supervised Independent Living — Supporting Foster Youth

Every year thousands of young adults in Texas turn 18 and age out of the foster care system. On their 18th birthday the system that has been responsible for their care closes the door — and they are expected to figure out the rest on their own. No family safety net. No savings. No experience navigating the adult world. Many of them do not know how to cook, budget, or apply for a job. And statistically without support they face devastating outcomes — homelessness, unemployment, incarceration, and trafficking at rates far higher than their peers who grew up in stable homes.

Hope Forward Foundation refuses to let that be their story.

Young adults in our SIL program are housed through Emma's House of Hope, our partner for-profit entity that holds the TDFPS Supervised Independent Living contract. The SIL program provides housing and a basic stipend. That is where the government program ends.

That is where Hope Forward Foundation begins. Your donations fund everything the SIL program does not cover — and that is a lot:

👕 Clothing and personal essentials — because showing up to a job interview in the right clothes matters
🧠 Counseling and mental health services — because many of these young adults carry real trauma that needs real support
🚗 Transportation — because getting to work, school, and appointments is a barrier we remove
💼 Job readiness training and resume help — because most of them have never had a job and need someone to show them how
🎓 School enrollment support — because higher education and trade programs are a pathway out of the cycle
💰 Financial literacy — because nobody taught them how to manage money and we do
🏠 Transition planning — because our goal is always to help them move into their own stable home
